Keen to strengthen Southampton in the middle of the park heading into the 2013/14 Premier League season, Mauricio Pochettino pushed the club into signing Celtic’s Victor Wanyama.
The Kenyan was fresh off a brilliant campaign with the Scottish giants, scoring in their famous 2-1 win over Barcelona in the Champions League at Celtic Park, giving Southampton supporters much reason to be excited.

A powerful midfielder great at winning the ball back in the middle of the park, Wanyama looked to be the perfect signing for Southampton.
And the 27-year-old showed as much once stepping onto the St. Mary’s pitch as he formed an effective midfield partnership alongside Morgan Schneiderlin.
Wanyama, however, was not a Saints player for long with Pochettino signing the former Celtic man again, only this time at Tottenham during the Argentinian’s second season (2015/16) at White Hart Lane.
Unfortunately for Wanyama, though, he has struggled with injuries since joining the north London club, especially of late, resulting in Pochettino having to stick Moussa Sissoko in midfield with Mousa Dembele also currently sidelined.
Nevertheless, for both Tottenham and Southampton, Wanyama was a very good signing. When fit, there are not many better ball-winning midfielders in the Premier League than the Kenya international.
