Leeds United supporters in the Transfer Tavern are revelling at their side’s stunning start to the 2017/18 Championship campaign.
New head coach Thomas Christiansen, who replaced Garry Monk during the close season, has led the team to four wins from their opening six matches, the latest a 5-0 thumping of Burton Albion, and many Whites fans are lining the bar in anticipation of their side’s push for promotion this term.
And news of another potential incoming is to intrigue those supporters in the Tavern, as The Yorkshire Evening Post have reported that Leeds are eyeing up a move for Japan international Yosuke Ideguchi when the transfer window re-opens in January.
The 21-year-old midfielder currently plays his trade in the J1 League with Gamba Osaka, for whom he has appeared 86 times in the last three years, bagging seven goals in the process.
Three of those goals, and indeed six assists, have come in 21 games this term to help the side to seventh place in the top-flight, and it’s that form which has reportedly attracted the interest of Christiansen and the Leeds hierarchy, who have reportedly already opened talks about a January switch.
The Yorkshire giants moved up to second in the Championship following their 5-0 thrashing of Burton on Saturday, and they’ll certainly be on the lookout for further reinforcements in January to sustain a promotion push in the second half of the campaign.
And landing Ideguchi is likely to go down well with those Leeds fans standing at the bar, who may see the international star as someone who can seriously bolster their midfield ranks should a move be forthcoming in January.
Landlord’s verdict: Leeds have made a great start to the new Championship season, but they’ll be wary of what happened last time round, with a top six spot almost assured until a woeful run of form to end the campaign saw them drop out of promotion contention.
Yet reinforcing the midfield department ahead of the second half of the campaign will go some way to making sure that doesn’t happen again, and that is exactly what the arrival of Japan international Yosuke Ideguchi could go some way to doing.
The 21-year-old has broken through into international reckoning this year and appears to have a bright future ahead of him, and his potential may well be realised at Leeds United.
