The 2014/15 Premier League season was a good one for Southampton with the club securing Europa League qualification after finishing seventh.
And one of the players who was at the heart of the team’s success that year was Morgan Schneiderlin.
Alongside Victor Wanyama in the middle of the park, the Frenchman helped to form a midfield partnership that provided the Saints with so much solidity.
It was a midfield partnership that was quickly dismantled, however, with Schneiderlin going on to join Manchester United after his impressive 2014/15 campaign at St. Mary’s.
Unfortunately for Schneiderlin, though, that £25m (BBC Sport) transfer to the Red Devils, simply put, proved to be a waste of everyone’s time.
The 29-year-old struggled to make much of an impact at Old Trafford under both Louis van Gaal and Jose Mourinho before eventually being sold to Everton, where he is also having difficulties.
And considering the midfielder he once was, the above can only be described as a disappointment.
During his time at St. Mary’s, the France international could be seen everywhere on the pitch, making tackles and interceptions before quickly releasing the ball to one of his more creative team-mates.
However, since joining Manchester United, Schneiderlin seems to have lost a bit of that energy and has become an extremely frustrating player overall.
Lacklustre in possession, the former Strasbourg man is often seen taking his time on the ball and making sideways passes that kill momentum to bring about groans at Goodison Park.
One can now only wonder where Schneiderlin’s career would have gone had he not left Southampton for Manchester United that summer.
