It’s derby day this weekend as Everton face Liverpool in a game with both sides coming into the game on the back of some superb form.
Liverpool remain unbeaten in the league this season while in their last six games, Everton have only lost one game.
Both clubs over the summer spent heavily. In midfield, Everton added Andre Gomes while Liverpool pulled off the surprise deal for Fabinho.
With the two playing in the same position, let’s compare them…
Andre Gomes
Signed on loan from Barcelona over the summer, Gomes joined the club injured and it took him some time to get into the team but since making his debut against Crystal Palace, the midfield man has been an integral part to Silva’s team.
Partnering Idrissa Gueye in midfield, the Portuguese man has given Everton great balance. While Gueye provides a more defensive aspect, Gomes gives Everton superb ability with the ball and is great at taking it under pressure.
At the weekend against Cardiff City, he had his best game for the club as he controlled the game. Against Liverpool, he’ll be an essential player and one that could help decide the game.

Fabinho
While Andre Gomes is slowly becoming more essential to Everton, Fabinho has really struggled to get into the side.
During his time with Monaco, he had become one of the best holding midfielders and his defensive awareness was essential in allowing his teammates to attack.
Joining for £40 million over the summer, it seemed as though Fabinho would be the base to Liverpool’s midfield but as of yet, he’s only made five appearances, two of those coming from the bench.
He’s a versatile player and at the moment he hasn’t played much but as the season progresses, we should start to see him have a greater impact on the side.

The Verdict
Considering how well Gomes has been playing of late and Fabinho’s little effect on the side, this wasn’t exactly a tough battle to call.
Fabinho has proven himself to be a great player during his time at Monaco but he just hasn’t been able to hit the ground running at Liverpool. Gomes, however, has already established himself as a key player for Everton and one that could take them towards Europe.
