TT Battle: Tammy Abraham vs Benik Afobe

Aston Villa currently find themselves just outside of the play-off places, while Stoke City are two points behind the Villains in 10th position.

The Midlands club won’t accept anything less than promotion to the Premier League in the current campaign, having come on leaps and bounds under Dean Smith. Meanwhile, the Potters will be looking to build on their recent form and could seek improvements in the January transfer window, with a play-off spot being the main aim.

Interestingly, Aston Villa will welcome Stoke City to Villa Park at the weekend, so we took a look at Tammy Abraham and Benik Afobe’s influence at their respective clubs.

With that in mind, let’s compare these two transfers…

TAMMY ABRAHAM

Steve Bruce landed a game-changing coup by signing Tammy Abraham on a season-long loan towards the end of August, as he has gone on to become one of the most dangerous forwards in the Championship.

The Englishman has spearheaded Aston Villa’s promotion push under Dean Smith and will play a huge part in the remainder of the current campaign, with 11 goals and one assist to his name already.

TT GRADE: A

BENIK AFOBE

Stoke City signed Benik Afobe on a six-month loan from Wolverhampton Wanderers back in the summer transfer window, with the obligation to purchase him for an undisclosed fee next month.

Indeed, the Premier League outcast struggled to enjoy a run in the side at Bournemouth and was immediately shipped out on loan to Stoke City after joining Wolves as they looked at bringing in other players.

He has struggled to ensure consistency in front of goal this season having only scored six goals in 22 appearances for the Potters, so he is definitely struggling at this moment in time.

TT GRADE: B

TT VERDICT:

When comparing these two, it’s clear to see that Abraham is far superior as he continues to find the back on a regular basis for Aston Villa, while Afobe is really struggling to contribute in the final third for Stoke City.

The on-loan Chelsea man has established himself as Dean Smith’s star man since he took charge at the club, so he will be relying on him to secure promotion for the Villains this season.

On the other hand, Stoke will be hoping that they can get a lot more out of the Afobe as he has dropped to the substitutes’ bench at times this season due to his lack of goals.

Both players have been at opposite ends of the spectrum in the Championship this season, as Abraham has gone on to make all the headlines, while Afobe has struggled to live up to expectations.
