The West Ham fans in the Transfer Tavern have been reacting to the news that Michail Antonio will miss the rest of the Premier League season with a hamstring injury. The former Nottingham Forest livewire was subbed after just nine minutes in Saturday’s 3-0 win over Southampton and will now have to sit out of the club’s last seven games of the current league campaign.

The West Ham fans propping our bar up will be no doubt gutted for Antonio although after the level of performance without the 28-year-old will be encouraging for the Hammers. David Moyes’s side bounced back from three consecutive losses by a three-goal margin by thrashing Southampton 3-0 themselves at the London Stadium in what was a day to forget for Mark Hughes. The visit to Stratford was Hughes’ first League game as Saints gaffer and the loss moved the Hammers five points clear of Hughes’ side.
Our local Irons have had their relegation fears eased somewhat after Marko Arnautovic and Joao Mario had the club 3-0 up at half-time, leaving The Saints with no way back into the game. The fans will be hoping that their sides’ forwards can continue in the form that they displayed on Saturday in the absence of Michail Antonio. Antonio has three goals in 20 league appearances in the current campaign and whilst his dynamism will be a big loss to the Hammers’ front line, the goals provided by Arnautovic and co should be enough to keep the club’s top-flight status intact for another year.
