Since Dean Smith took over at Villa Park he’s had a mixed start. The ex-Brentford man has masterminded three wins from five in his time at the club, with this weekend’s 3-0 win away at Pride park proving the most impressive so far. In that win, it was the partnership of Jack Grealish and John McGinn in the Villains’ midfield that proved pivotal and now the Villa fans want to see more.

McGinn has proved to be an excellent signing at Villa Park and he showed his worth yet again on Saturday when he netted Villa’s first goal of the game on 74 minutes. It was the start of an incredible ten minutes for Villa as Tammy Abraham and Conor Hourihane then added goals to turn a narrow win into a thumping as Villa rose to 11th in the table, just four points off of Derby who are clinging onto the final playoff spot.
Whilst McGinn scored and shone, the work of Grealish was again superb and when the Villa academy man posted a picture of himself with McGinn out on the pitch following the win it sparked plenty of talk amongst Villa fans, with the supporters lauding the duo as the best in the Championship. The next few weeks after the international break will be the time for the pair to prove that and if they can help Dean Smith turn Villa int a Premier League team then they’ll really have earned that tag.
