Legend is a word thrown about far too often these days, but Walter Smith is just that to Rangers.
The 72-year-old is one of the most successful managers in the club’s history, having won 11 Scottish Premierships, five Scottish cups and six Scottish League cups across 11 years as the club’s boss (managerstats.co.uk). There will unlikely be anyone else in the future who will be able recreate what he achieved at Ibrox during his time there.

However, before he became the gaffer, he was actually Graeme Souness’ assistant manager. He was hired by the former Scotland international in 1986, and he would be the former Galatasaray boss’ second-hand man for five years before stepping into the hot-seat.
It was actually 34 years ago on Wednesday when he joined the club, and to celebrate the occasion, Rangers shared a photo of the two of them together on Twitter.
As you can imagine, the club’s supporters absolutely loved the picture, and the took to the social media platform to share their thoughts, with one unsurprisingly calling him a ‘proper Rangers legend‘.

What a picture 😍😍😍
2 absolute legends
Can’t remember Souness as a manager as I was only 4/5 when he left, but Walter Smith has got to be the best I’ve seen, be tough to ever see a better manager at Rangers again

At the time I thought it was a strange move. Shows what I know. We are not worthy!
