The Red Devils swept aside FC Basel with a dominant performance, ending the game as 3-0 winners against the Swiss side.
However, despite the great result and performance, the game was not without problems, most notably in the form of a pretty major injury scare.
Paul Pogba limped off during the game, leaving the fans in the Transfer Tavern holding their breath, and now Jose Mourinho has responded to the blow – offering reason for optimism.
According to the official Man Utd website, he said: “Squads are for this, squads are for injuries, squads are for suspensions. We don’t cry with injuries. So if no Paul for Sunday, we have Herrera, we have Carrick, we have Fellaini and we have Matic”.
Whilst Mourinho is not yet certain of the extent of the injury, it isn’t a situation that seems to be worrying him. Instead, as he notes, he has a number of solutions to the problem.
Still, Paul Pogba has enjoyed a fantastic start to the season, and so the fans in the Transfer Tavern are worried about this. He has been a creative spark and a goalscoring threat this term, and so whoever comes in will have to make the step up and impress.
Landlord’s Verdict
Ander Herrera would be a logical replacement for the Frenchman, though he was nowhere to be seen within the Red Devils’ squad on Tuesday evening.
He is creative and offensive, though, and so he would serve as natural cover for the Frenchman.
It’ll be a big blow to miss out on Pogba for any length of time, but Man Utd are in a good position to deal with it.
