The Welsh fans are competing in a pool tournament in The Transfer Tavern this evening and discussing reports that contract negotiations between the manager and the FA look set to be a drawn out affair.
The Daily Mail is reporting that Chris Coleman has suggested that their is a wide divide between himself and the FA with regards to a new contract being agreed.
Coleman’s contract as the manager of Wales is set to expire after EURO 2016, and after leading the country to their first finals in many admits that it could be halfway through the tournament that a deal is a completed.
Speaking about the contract negotiations, Coleman said:
‘We opened negotiations last Monday. It never went very far. I didn’t expect it to. It wasn’t disappointing because it’s an important decision to go into the World Cup for me and Wales. It has to be right. I didn’t expect the first negotiations to be: “Great, is that it? Let’s do it?” It’s not going to be like that.’
‘Now I hate having anything going on. I’m now in game mode. All managers do. All I can think about is Northern Ireland. I don’t want to be talking to anyone about my contract or the World Cup. Everything else has to wait until those two weeks are done. Once they are done then we go straight back into it. We are apart.’
‘I’ve never signed a contract where the first negotiations are “You want that? I can give you that. Shake hands and it’s done. At the minute, I am thinking that was the first talk. We will have another one. But in between we have these two games and we have to be right.’
The Welsh fans in The Tavern are not to worried at present but think that Coleman will eventually sign a new deal after taking the country to their first finals since 1958.
