The Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern had been buoyant heading into the weekend, but they are markedly more quiet at the moment. There’s a very good reason for that, of course, given that Arsene Wenger’s men happened to lose the North London derby on Saturday, with the Gunners’ top four hopes now hanging by a thread.
Indeed, whilst optimism was high heading into the game, those hopes and dreams have well and truly been crushed now.
Currently rated at £14.4 million by Transfer Markt, a move for Meyer would represent a bargain for the Gunners – owing to his current contractual status. He’d be available on a free come the summer, making this a move that carries little risk for Arsenal.
A number 10 by trade, Meyer is an expert passer of the ball, whilst his technical brilliance is eerily reminiscent of Mesut Ozil, albeit at a lower level.
Landlord’s Verdict
Meyer has had a tough season, having yet to register a goal or an assist, but his talent is clear for all to see.
At 22-years-old, he’s only going to get better, and Wenger really has nothing to lose. He could be the perfect Ozil successor in the heart of the midfield.
A move won’t be easy, but trying to secure a deal makes sense.
