If Arsenal want to challenge for the title this season, the Gunners in the Transfer Tavern think that a few new signings in January are essential…
The Gunners have started well, but as we begin to reach the midway point in the Premier League – it appears clear that they are a few steps behind leaders Chelsea.
Whilst the Blues have impressed in recent weeks, Arsenal have looked shaky – and whilst a dominant victory over West Ham proved their quality – they clearly are not the complete package.
Our landlord thinks that Arsene Wenger is just a few key signings away from glory in the Premier League this season, and with the January transfer window fast approaching – the Frenchman desperately needs to invest in his side.
With that said, Wenger must ask the owners to sanction these three January deals…
Virgil van Dijk

Arsene Wenger did well to capture Shkodran Mustafi in the summer, but he cannot rely on the duo of Mustafi and Koscielny all season.
It is absolutely essential that he looks to replace the likes of Mertesacker and Gabriel in the Arsenal squad, and van Dijk could be a fantastic option.
Van Dijk has, quite clearly, outgrown Southampton, and a move to one of the Premier League’s best sides – of which Arsenal certainly are – is the natural progression.
He would add some real depth.
Julian Draxler

Julian Draxler is one name in a long line of talented young Germans that look destined for greatness within the next few years – and Arsenal could be the side to reap the rewards.
He has spoken of his desire to move on from Wolfsburg, and Arsenal could be the benefactors.
Draxler is technical, explosive and pacey – and he looks man made for the Premier League.
Isco
It is unlikely that Arsenal would look to sign both Draxler and Isco, but if a move for the German winger fails – Isco would represent a very realistic alternative.
The 24-year-old Spanish midfielder has been a bit-part player at Real Madrid since his arrival, and that could be something that he will want to change.
Arsenal are still a very attractive option for top players and Isco would get the opportunity to play alongside the likes of Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil in this side.
It has been argued in the Transfer Tavern that Arsenal are too reliant on Ozil and Sanchez – and Isco would definitely take the pressure off of those two.
