The Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern were pretty pleased with their side’s performance over the weekend. It has been a very up and down season for the Gunners, but their performance over the weekend was certainly a highlight. Dominating Everton, who themselves have struggled this season, certainly put down a marker that the Gunners cannot be discounted quite yet.
However, there is no time for Arsene Wenger to celebrate the win, with another game for his side coming up on Tuesday. This time around it is the Carabao Cup, with Arsenal set to face Norwich at the Emirates. It’s game that they will be expected to win, but given their current run of fixture congestion, Arsene Wenger is likely to pick a much-changed side.
Featuring within that side is likely to be a few young players, with the Carabao Cup not likely to be high on Wenger’s targets this season. Not only does this give Arsenal’s senior stars a chance to have a rest, but it will also let the boss assess which young players could be in his plans this season. But who will he pick?

Ainsley Maitland-Niles
The versatility that Ainsley Maitland-Niles brings to the table allows him to play in any number of positions, but the sheer quality he provides on the field is even more impressive.
Most comfortable as a central midfielder, Maitland-Niles brings composure and elegance to the middle of the park, and the Gunners have lacked a player of his quality for quite some time.
He’s had a decent number of chances in the team this season, and so he is likely to feature tonight, and another good performance could stand him in very good stead.
Reiss Nelson
Reiss Nelson has had a decent amount of game time this season too, albeit in secondary competitions, and this Carabao Cup clash could offer him another opportunity to shine.
An exciting attacking player, he offers technical skill, pace and a real goal threat, and at 17-years-old, he’s only going to get better and better. He’s a favourite amongst Arsenal fans in the pub.
Arsene Wenger is a manager that always gives young players a chance if they are good enough, and judging by his recent involvement despite his age, the French boss clearly rates him very highly. He has a bright future.
