West Ham United manager David Moyes is eyeing a move for Burnley attacker Maxwel Cornet, according to journalist Alan Nixon (via West Ham Zone).
The Lowdown: Cornet’s season
With the Clarets’ relegation to the Championship, a whole host of Premier League sides have been linked with a move for Turf Moor man.
The Latest: Nixon’s news
“West Ham boss David Moyes wants Maxwel Cornet and is willing to pay £20 million for him.
“Hammers chief Moyes has cash to spend and has turned his sights to landing quick and skilful Cornet.
“Burnley are willing to sell Cornet if the deal is right.”
The Verdict: Get it done
After Cornet scored twice in Lyon’s 2-2 draw against Manchester City in 2018, Pep Guardiola was left stunned the 25-year-old, saying: “I was very impressed by the talent of Maxwel Cornet.”
And it’s fair to say the numbers support the Spaniard’s analysis. As per FBRef, compared with positional peers across Europe over the past year, the winger ranks in the top 25 percent for tackles and interceptions as well as non-penalty goals, proving equally effective on both sides of the ball.
Should West Ham sign Cornet?
For the money being quoted, this seems like a shrewd bit of business for the Hammers, with Moyes adding creativity, pace and skill (The Athletic) in one swift move.
