According to transfer expert Nicolo Schira, West Ham United are ‘pressing‘ to sign AS Roma striker Edin Dzeko – coming after Corriere dello Sport (via Sport Witness) originally claimed that the Bosnian had been ‘offered‘ to the Hammers as a January option.
Dzeko has bagged seven goals in 14 Serie A starts this season (WhoScored), with previous reports of an offer to West Ham over signing the 34-year-old having recently emerged.
Dzeko links to West Ham backed up by Schira
Now, journalist Schira has backed up Dzeko being a Hammers target on social media – writing on Twitter that GSB and co are ‘pressing‘ to sign him alongside the likes of Paris-Saint Germain and Juventus, who remain ‘vigilant‘.
The forward reportedly earns €7.5 million a year (£6.6m) for the Serie A giants, which roughly translates to around £139,000-per-week (sempreinter.com), so the Hammers could have to make Dzeko their highest earner if they wish to land him this month.
It’s not mentioned whether he would take a pay cut to join a new club, but Schira has followed on from earlier reports surrounding Dzeko in claiming that West Ham have joined the race to sign him.
Transfer Tavern take
Schira also doesn’t explain how much Roma would demand in a transfer fee, but Irons cult hero Paolo Di Canio, speaking to Sky Sports recently (via Area Napoli.it), heralded the former Manchester City star as a ‘leader’ and ‘champion’ of Rome – with the Italian definitely a firm admirer.
It remains to be seen what it comes of this news, but it now appears West Ham are now firmly in the race.
