West Ham United: GSB may still be able to sign Marseille monster Duje Caleta-Car after summer ‘offer’

Speaking to TUTTONAPOLI.net, La Provence journalist Fabrice Lamperti has revealed details about a previous ‘offer from West Ham‘ for Marseille defensive colossus Duje Caleta-Car – going on to hint at some hope for GSB as he claims that the Ligue 1 side ‘will listen‘ to future offers.

Caleta-Car, who has arguably impressed for Marseille this campaign over the 18 league matches he’s started, was the subject of intense interest from GSB in the summer, according to Lamperti.

Indeed, there was apparently an ‘offer from West Ham’ for the 24-year-old, but neither Marseille or the player himself gave the ‘green light’ to a Premier League move.

GSB may still be able to sign Caleta-Car for West Ham

However, speaking to TUTTONAPOLI.net, the journalist has hinted that the Irons could come back in for Caleta-Car given Marseille’s financial problems – explaining that Andre Villas-Boas’ side will now entertain all enquiries made for the 6 foot 4 powerhouse.

“Everything is possible for the simple fact that Caleta-Car had to leave last summer,” explained Lamperti when asked about speculation surrounding the Croatian and teammate Boubacar Kamara.

“There was an offer from West Ham, but neither OM nor the player gave the green light, especially since this year, the team was playing in the Champions League.

“OM, however, has many financial problems, amplified by the Covid emergency.

“Marseille need money, so they will listen to all offers, whether for Caleta-Car or Kamara.

“It is difficult that they will go away this winter, much easier than they will leave next summer. ”

Transfer Tavern take

Making 4.1 clearances per 90 so far over 2020/2021 and averaging 2.5 aerial duels won a match (WhoScored), Caleta-Car appears as a towering presence and colossus at the back for Marseille  – leaving little wonder why West Ham attempted to sign him during the last transfer window.

If GSB do go back in for him, Lamperti has claimed they may have a better shot second time round due to the Ligue 1 side’s current financial issues – but whether or not they take the opportunity remains to be seen.
