Despite their 1-0 loss to Blackpool at Fratton Park over the weekend, Portsmouth still hold a comfortable lead at the top of the League One table.
Kenny Jackett’s men currently sit on 57 points, four above their closest rivals Luton Town in second, giving supporters reason to remain optimistic following that recent setback.
After all, it has been a good season overall for Portsmouth with promotion to the Championship in sight thanks to the likes of Jamal Lowe and Ronan Curtis, who have both impressed this term.
The duo have since been linked with moves away from Fratton Park with Sky Sports reporting earlier this month that the former has caught the attention of Leeds United, Middlesbrough, Nottingham Forest and West Brom.
Jackett, however, has since looked to pour cold water on those rumours, suggesting the club are yet to receive any offers for Lowe.
“We haven’t had any enquiries or offers,” Jackett told The News. “There’s been a lot of media attention, but no enquiries for Jamal or any of our players. Quite frankly, where we are it would be tough to be selling players in this window and to be convinced to do it in the position we’re in.”
With plenty of time still left until the transfer window closes, though, that could quickly change. And if so, Portsmouth must do everything in their power to keep the 24-year-old at the club at least until the end of the season.
Losing Lowe, who has scored 11 goals in all competitions for Pompey this campaign, would be a huge blow in the team’s quest for Championship promotion. Replacing that sort of firepower from out wide would undoubtedly prove to be a difficult task for Jackett.
It could change the entire complexion at the top of League One and not in Portsmouth’s favour.
