Birmingham City have defied expectations throughout the current campaign as nobody thought they’d be in with a chance of securing a play-off spot after finishing in 19th position last season.
Garry Monk really has worked wonders since taking charge at St Andrew’s and it’s safe to say that the players have stepped up a couple of levels too, but their recent form has let them down massively.
Of course, one worry for supporters is Che Adams’ future as he’s already attracted the interest of a number of teams (as per TEAMtalk) ahead of the summer transfer window.
But, supporters now have another thing to worry about, as well as the possible point deduction, as according to The Telegraph, Birmingham can’t offer Michael Morrison a new deal because of the current issues after breaking the EFL’s new profitability and sustainability rules.
Michael Morrison has been a regular under Garry Monk in the current campaign having made 37 appearances and he’s even managed to produce four goals and one assist.
Plenty of fans look up to the 31-year-old as the club captain and it’s safe to say that he’s proved his worth on the field this season, with defensive solidity always ensured at the heart of the defence. One of the biggest issues in recent seasons at St Andrew’s has been Birmingham’s lack of quality in defence but things have changed for the better since Monk took charge, with Morrison playing a big part in the Blues’ rise.
Therefore, losing him in the summer would be devastating for supporters as they’d lose their leader and defensive issues could soon return.
