West Ham United spent heavily during the summer transfer window in an attempt to enjoy a successful first season under Manuel Pellegrini at the London Stadium.
The Hammers drafted in 10 players during the summer transfer window that included the likes of Issa Diop, Felipe Anderson and Jack Wilshere, who have all gone on to impress so far this season.
However, this left some of the current squad fearing for their future in the Premier League under Pellegrini, with a limited amount of space for players to break into the starting XI.
Nathan Holland joined West Ham in January 2017 on a three-and-a-half year contract. He made his first team debut on the 19th of September 2017 in a League Cup game against Bolton Wanderers and was tipped for big things, but things just didn’t develop from there as he suffered a hamstring injury.
Had the youngster not picked up a serious hamstring injury in November when David Moyes arrived at the club, it’s not far off to say he would have been involved with the first team by now.
Interestingly, it was back in 2017, after a 2-0 win over Fulham, that West Ham academy manager Terry Westley heaped praise on Holland as he stated that he reminded him of a young Ryan Giggs.
The 20-year-old returned to action towards the end of the campaign and is the right-sided winger that could seriously thrive under Manuel Pellegrini if he is given the chance. Sadly, the Englishman has only made three Premier League 2 appearances this season, as he continues to wait patiently for his call-up.
So, with Pellegrini giving Grady Diangana a chance in the first team already this season, there’s no reason as to why Nathan Holland can’t make the step up having shown plenty of promise, with a place in Europe up for grabs if the Hammers can make the most of things.
