Manchester City currently find themselves trailing in the race for the Premier League title, but the January transfer window could soon change that.
The Citizens already have arguably one of the strongest squads in the Premier League at this moment in time, but reinforcements would definitely boost their title chances.
One area that requires slight improvement is in defence as the Manchester club struggled to keep things tight at the back towards the end of December, and Vincent Kompany isn’t getting any younger.
Interestingly, Manchester City are reportedly interested in signing Fiorentina’s Nikola Milenkovic.
But, bitter rivals Manchester United are believed to be in talks to sign the central defender in a £45 million deal.
So, it looks as if the Citizens will need to pay big money to sign the 21-year-old, which shouldn’t be a problem after splashing the cash on Riyad Mahrez back in the summer.
Indeed, conceding two against Leicester City and three goals against Crystal Palace really highlighted a slight weakness in City’s defence, so securing the services of Milenkovic could prove vital.
Of course, bringing the Serbian international to the Etihad would be great for Manchester City on two separate fronts, as they would upset Manchester United by forcing them to miss out on one of their targets, while securing the final piece in their Premier League title puzzle.
Vincent Kompany was very impressive against Liverpool but he hasn’t always been able to ensure consistency over the past season or so, while Nicolas Otamendi is yet to reach his full potential this season and Aymeric Laporte has been utilised at left-back at times.
There’s no doubt that bringing Milenkovic to the Etihad would play a big part in gifting Manchester City the Premier League title, as he is one of the world’s most promising players, with his pace, tackling ability, strength and height making him almost impossible to get past.
A partnership that includes Milenkovic and John Stones would provide the perfect balance, which could quite possibly take them to the next level and would eradicate any underlying problems.
