What does the future hold for Vincent Janssen?

Tottenham fans knew that Thursday’s transfer deadline day would bring them nothing but a few outgoings and an early night. However, even the outgoings failed to properly materialise and Vincent Janssen ended up staying after moves to Cardiff, Real Betis and Schalke all failed to materialise, leading to the question: what happens now?

The Dutchman has been at Tottenham since signing for £17 million back in summer 2016. However, it hasn’t all been plain-sailing for Janssen at Tottenham and the youngster failed to deliver in his first season, leading to a season-long loan in his second season at Fenerbahce. A foot injury cut that loan short and then cost him another loan last summer, leading us to now where again a move has failed.

Now, though, with Janssen fit again and scoring goals for Tottenham in the club’s U23 side, Mauricio Pochettino has gone full circle. After previously stripping the 24-year-old of the #9 shirt at the club and shutting down journalists mid-sentence when asking about his chances, Pochettino has now claimed, via Sky Sports, that Janssen will be training with the first-team and is in his plans.

The Lilywhites will all be over the moon to hear of this news. Whilst it’s not quite as good as a new signing, despite a lot of supporters tweets claiming so, it’s certainly a step in the right direction and something that the fans can be delighted to see as they hope their Dutch hitman can make an impact and get a chance between now and the end of the season.

The only issue now is that Tottenham are no longer in the FA Cup, and with a tough run in both the Premier League and Champions League, it will always be a risk to go into games with the 24-year-old seeing as he’s played little football and won’t necessarily be up to speed, but either way it looks like Janssen can make a career for himself in North London, he just needs to take his chance.
