The Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern have been losing their minds over the fact that Atletico Madrid have agreed on a deal with Monaco for the signing for Thomas Lemar. The French winger has long been touted with a move to Anfield although with Jurgen Klopp pursuing other options a clear path has opened up for Atleti to swoop in and sign the Monaco man.
Liverpool fans have had it tough on the transfer front over the last week. The club had reportedly got everything in place over the signing of Nabil Fekir, from agreeing on the fee to even recording an introductory interview for LFCTV, however, the move fell through when Liverpool questioned the Lyon’s man injury record and wanted to lower the fee, to the amusement of Lyon’s president who called the deal off.
The club will now have to look at other options and Thomas Lemar would have been high up on that list. But the early bird gets the worm and the fact that Klopp waited too long before signing the player has meant he’s lost out. Liverpool aren’t the only English side to have lost out though, as Arsenal had a bid in the region of £90 million agreed last summer before pulling out because there wasn’t enough time remaining in the window to complete the deal.

Bottled Lemar. Bottled Fekir. Bottled Alison. I’m hoping we add a CB, GK, CAM and cover up top to Keita & Fabinho otherwise we won’t be pushing on. #LFC

Keita is included in that 18m actually. Fabinho not. Fekir looks properly dead mate, sadly. I think we’ve decided he’s too high-risk which is fair enough but we’ve also missed out on Lemar now.

Lemar off to join athletico so #LFC lost another top target.

The Liverpool fans can feel rightfully annoyed at the fact that the club has let Lemar go to Atletico Madrid without any competition, the club looks to have missed out on Fekir and will now need to source a back-up, they’re lucky that time is on their side.
