Rangers finally had their supporters here in the Tavern bouncing last weekend after thumping lowly Hamilton in the Scottish Cup quarter final 6-0 and boy were they happy about it!

We’ve seen some really poor stuff from Gers this season, who have struggled to get back into the swing of things in the top flight at times but after the win, it’s clear to see why the optimism levels have gone up a notch here in the Tavern.

It’s about time things started to pick up and after seeing some dreadful stuff over the past few months and our Gers regulars are finally beginning to crack a smile too!

So with things finally turning a corner, we want to go back in time and have a look at some other Rangers stars, ones that actually found the best form of their career having left the club.

So with that in mind, here’s two former Rangers players who thrived after leaving the club…

Allan McGregor

Scottish international Allan McGregor played over 200 times for Rangers during the earlier stages of his career and was tipped as one of the most secure goalkeepers to have played at Ibrox in modern times.

But few Gers fans here in the Tavern can argue that he didn’t go onto bigger and better things and after a brief spell with Turkish giants Beskitas, he moved to Hull City and impressed on the biggest stage of all – the Premier League.

He’s kept out some of the best strikers in the world and has gone onto make 35 appearances for his country too.

Kyle Bartley

Whilst he was never a permanent face in the Rangers side, former Arsenal youngster Kyle Bartley did have two loans spells at Gers during the earlier days of his career.

He seems well-liked amongst the Gers fans here in the Tavern, who are pleased to see him doing so well for Championship play-off hopefuls Leeds United.

But he’s certainly gone onto bigger and brighter things after his spell with Gers and it shouldn’t be long before we see him back in the Premier League, competing against the world’s best.
