West Brom went quietly about their business in the summer in terms of transfers, with manager Tony Pulis keeping his cards close to his chest and getting the deals he wanted over the line with minimal fuss.
The Baggies also managed to keep hold of prized defender Jonny Evans in what was a key piece of business by Pulis.
The West Brom fans here in the Tavern are always a proud bunch, and over the last couple of seasons have really seen their team grow into one of the most consistent sides we see in the top flight today.
Our landlord here in the Tavern has been having a few beers with the Baggies fans this week and he thinks that they pulled of a serious coup in signing former Nottingham Forest man Oliver Burke during the window.
The Scottish powerhouse midfielder has enjoyed a productive spell in Germany with RB Leipzig, helping the club to Champions League football and running Bayern Munich close in the Bundesliga.
Burke has developed and come on leaps and bounds since that move. His playing style seems ideal suited to the Premier League, and he genuinely offers West Brom something which they currently lack.
Burke’s ability to bulldoze past opponents, create chances out of nothing and score important goals mark him out as a serious player to watch this term.
If he can find his top form and start producing on regular basis, then there’s every chance that we could well see West Brom pushing for a place in Europe come the end of May next year.
