With Gundogan signed… Here’s 5 more realistic targets for Guardiola’s Manchester City

Ilkay Gundogan finally signed for Manchester City after months of speculation earlier this month, and the City fans here in the Transfer Tavern are delighted!

The German arrives at the Etihad having won the Bundesliga and German Cup with Borussia Dortmund.

Gundogan is a world-class midfielder, evidenced by the fact that he has 16 caps for Germany, and has scored 4 goals as well as tucking away a tidy penalty in the 2013 Champions Final against Manuel Neuer.

Manchester City famously have endless amounts of cash to splash on whoever they may please and the Landlord at the Tavern has come up with some targets for Pep Guardiola.

City don’t only need to improve on their 4th place finish, they also need to be aware that the other clubs around them are strengthening, including Chelsea, Arsenal, Tottenham, Liverpool, Leicester and of course Manchester United who will be under Jose Mourinho’s management next season.

United will want to get the better of their noisy neighbours next season after missing out on finishing above them due to a inferior goal difference.

Aymeric Laporte

Aymeric Laported

First up is Aymeric Laporte. The French centre back has been instrumental in Athletic Bilbao’s success in recent years.

The tall defender is capable of popping up with a goal when it is needed but is overall an extremely reliable defender.

With Vincent Kompany on the sidelines almost as much as Jack Wilshere, the Landlord at the Tavern thinks this would be a very sensible signing for the team’s sake in terms of quality and squad depth.

Leroy Sane

Sane

AGUEROOOOOOOOOO can still be heard echoing around Manchester from 4 years ago as he snatched the title from United’s hands in the dying seconds of the 11/12 season.

This is the man to take City forward and provide the City fans with endless amounts of new memories.

The 20-year-old can play on the wing or attack and helped himself to 9 goals and 7 assists for Schalke this term.

City should sign him up before anyone else can get their hands on him.

Iñaki Williams

If you are reading this and wondering why the likes of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo aren’t mentioned in this gallery, it is because the Bartender at the Tavern may have just found the next global superstar.

Williams has been phenomenal in Spain this year scoring 13 goals and providing a further 6 to his team-mates from the right wing for Athletic Bilbao.

The 21-year-old has already been capped by Spain and could be an ideal replacement for Jesus Navas or David Silva in due time.

Toni Kroos

Manchester Evening News has reported that City are eager to sign Toni Kroos from Real Madrid. Yay Toure looks to be on his way out of the Etihad an Kroos may provide the goals and assists that Toure has been supplying for the last few years.

The German is an incredible playmaker and more than capable of becoming a real City star.

The City fans at the Tavern can’t seem to contain their excitement at the news.

Hector Bellerin

Ozil Bellerin

Bleacher Report has said that City and United will go head-to-head in order to sign young Spaniard Hector Bellerin from Arsenal this summer.

The Bartender at the Tavern can’t see this move ever actually happening but it would be an incredible one if it were to happen.

Bellerin is a speed king and provides plenty of great crosses in which Aguero (or Sane!) would latch upon. Bacary Sagna should watch his back.
