Wolverhampton Wanderers are ‘expected to move’ imminently for Queens Park Rangers manager Michael Beale, according to The Athletic’s David Ornstein.

The Lowdown: Beale’s career

The 42-year-old is just five-months into his tenure as a first-team manager, having joined the Championship club at the start of June.

Prior to his London move, Beale was Steven Gerrard’s assistant manager at Rangers and Aston Villa, having previously emerged as the Liverpool U21s head coach.

The Latest: Ornstein’s news

With Beale just recently having been linked with the Wolves job, Ornstein has now shared an update on the Old Gold’s search for a Bruno Lage replacement.

Taking to Twitter, The Athletic journalist revealed:

“Wolves have made Michael Beale 1st choice to become next boss. Expected to move fast & contact anticipated between clubs to discuss release. Would be seen as a progressive, exciting appointment + break from previous mould.”

As per the attached report, the 42-year-old is believed to have a release clause included in his contract at QPR.

The Verdict: Good appointment

Whilst many people will question Beale’s arrival at the Molineux due to his lack of experience managing at the first-team level, others will be rightfully excited by his appointment.

Having finished 11th in the Championship under Mark Warburton last season, QPR have seen significant improvements with the former Aston Villa man in charge.

Currently, Beale’s side sit sixth in the table, having won seven of their 14 league fixtures this term.

Hailed by Gerrard as ‘special’ for what he does on the training pitch, the 42-year-old is seen as a fresh, up-and-coming manager in English football.

Therefore, this could end up being an exciting appointment by Fosun.
