Wolves: Adama Traore close to agreeing Napoli move

Molineux Stadium, Wolverhampton, Britain - January 17, 2023. Wolverhampton Wanderers' Adama Traore.

Wolverhampton Wanderers forward Adama Traore is close to agreeing a move to join Napoli this summer, according to reports.

The Lowdown: Traore set for talks

The Spaniard will be out of contract at Molineux at the end of the season, and having not yet been offered or put pen to paper on fresh terms, his future has been uncertain.

Premier League clubs Tottenham and Leeds have both emerged as potential suitors for the 27-year-old should he become available on a free transfer, having failed to make an impression since Julen Lopetegui arrived at Molineux with just one assist under the new boss.

The Old Gold winger recently admitted that himself and the club are set to hold talks to discover next steps, but it sounds like he could already have his future mapped out elsewhere.

The Latest: Napoli move ‘very close’

According to Italian outlet Napoli Piu (via Sport Witness), the Serie A side’s chief Cristiano Giuntoli has ‘many names’ on his summer wish-list, and Traore is ‘one of those’.

The report states that a move is already ‘very close indeed’, with there being chatter of an ‘almost done deal’ for him to make the switch at the end of the 2022/23 campaign.

Neither the player nor Lopetegui are displaying a ‘strong interest’ in extending his stay at present, meaning that a departure looks to be on the cards.

First up in this Wolves transfer quiz, who was the last player to be signed by Bruno Lage at Molineux?

The Verdict: Let him go

Traore has been dubbed a ‘monster’ by Barcelona manager Xavi, and whilst he’s been a fantastic servant, Wolves would be making the right decision by letting him go.

The Wanderers attacker has made 24 appearances across all competitions this season but only 11 of those have been starts, and he’s netted just two goals and provided only one assist (WhoScored).

Lopetegui has already brought six of his own players to the club and it’s important that the squad is continually evolving for the better, with Traore’s lack of end product meaning one of the boss’ new faces should be elected to step up into the winger’s role.
