Wolves: Old Gold show ‘concrete’ interest in Matheus Nunes

Wolves remain interested in signing Sporting Lisbon midfielder Matheus Nunes during the summer transfer window and have shown a ‘concrete’ interest, according to a report which has emerged.

The Lowdown: Nunes constantly linked with Wolves

The 23-year-old has been continually linked with a move to Molineux this summer, as Bruno Lage looks to make some marquee reinforcements to improve his squad.

Nunes impressed for Sporting last season, making 33 Primeira Liga appearances and scoring three goals, along with averaging 2.5 dribbles per match.

A new update suggests that Wolves are still pursuing a move for the eight-cap Portugal international and may even be front-runners to sign him.

The Latest: Wolves seemingly lead Nunes transfer race

According to Record [via Sport Witness], ‘only one concrete’ interest has emerged in Nunes so far, and it comes from Wolves, which would suggest that they are in pole position to sign him. The report added that Fosun are ‘ready to advance’ if the 26-year-old decides to leave the Portuguese capital.

Sporting manager Ruben Amorim is keen to keep hold of the 6 foot gem, while the player himself may also be happy to spend one more season at his current club following some persuasion by his boss.

The Verdict: Still seems unlikely

With each passing day, it looks increasingly as though Wolves are putting all their eggs in the Nunes basket, although this update suggests that they may not get their man just yet.

The Premier League club certainly appear to be the front-runners should he decide that he wants to leave, but it looks as if the man hailed as ‘one of the best players in the world’ by Pep Guardiola will remain a Sporting player for the foreseeable future.

Should that happen, it would be an undoubted blow for Wolves, who have already missed out on former transfer target Joao Palhinha to Fulham, and the frustration is amplified by reports linking Ruben Neves with an exit from the club.
