Wolves: Door open for Fosun to sign Isco

Sevilla's Isco celebrates scoring their second goal

Wolverhampton Wanderers have been handed a boost in their bid to sign Isco, with the door now open for Fosun to snap up the midfielder in January.

The Lowdown: Wolves’ Isco links

Last week, Marca reported that there had been a confrontation between Isco and Sevilla manager Monchi, causing the Rojiblancos to move swiftly in deciding to sell the Spaniard at the nearest available opportunity.

The same report highlighted Wolves as a potential destination for the former Real Madrid man, due to his previous history working under Julen Lopetegui, and now it appears as though he could be one step closer to a move to Molineux, after the latest update…

The Latest: Isco a free agent?

According to another update from Marca, both Sevilla and the player himself are now working on an agreement to terminate his contract with the La Liga club.

It is also detailed that the door is still open for Lopetegui to reunite with the 30-year-old, and this may now become an easier transfer to arrange, given that no fee will be required once his departure is agreed.

This could be the new Wolves boss’ second capture of the winter window, with a deal for Matheus Cunha on the verge of completion (BBC Sport).

The Verdict: Get it done?

It is understandable why some Wolves fans would have reservations about signing the 38-time Spain international, given that he has not really impressed consistently since the 2017/18 La Liga this season, in which he registered 14 goal contributions for Real Madrid.

A player not being able to continue this fantastic record into their peak years is a worry, and the argument with Monchi perhaps signifies some potential issues off the pitch, but he has still shown in glimpses how good he can be for Sevilla this season.

Journalist Josh Bunting credited the goal that the maestro scored against FC Copenhagen in the Champions League this season as a show ‘ridiculous technique’, and this is some evidence that he is still at a level good enough to really help Wolves in their relegation fight.

With Lopetegui also being the man who signed Isco for Sevilla in the summer, the manager clearly has faith in him, which could go a long way to giving him the confidence to rediscover his old form.
