Wolverhampton Wanderers are in ‘talks’ to sign free agent defender Jason Denayer on deadline day, according to Sky Sports editor Lyall Thomas.

Bruno Lage is in the market for a centre-back reinforcement as a result of Willy Boly closing in on a move to Nottingham Forest, and there’s one name that has consistently cropped up.
West Ham and Premier League veteran Craig Dawson is believed to be in talks over a potential switch to the Molineux, but it seems like the Midlands outfit have identified another target, should that deal not come to fruition.
The Latest: Wolves in contact with Denayer
Taking to Twitter, Sky Sports editor and transfer reporter Thomas revealed that whilst Dawson is edging the contest, Wolves remain in negotiations with Denayer. He wrote:
“#Wolves are in talks with Jason Denayer; one of two centre-back targets before the deadline along with Craig Dawson, who’s edging it atm.”
This follows with reports from Express and Star reporter Liam Keen that Denayer was emerging as an option earlier in the week.
The Verdict: Risk worth taking
Denayer being available on a free makes it a move with next to no risk, so Lage should definitely try and complete this deal if the opportunity arises.
The Belgian, whose former international manager Marc Wilmots said was ‘like Eden Hazard’ in terms of his calming nature and confidence in high pressure moments, has earned 35 caps for the Red Devils so could add plenty of experience to the backline.
