Wolves: Wanderers desperate for striker after Spurs performance

Wolves: Wanderers desperate for striker after Spurs performance -Wolves News

Wolverhampton Wanderers are “one striker away from being an excellent side”, says BBC commentator Jacqui Oatley after watching Bruno Lage’s men lose 1-0 against Tottenham Hotspur.

The Lowdown

Despite the arrival of Goncalo Guedes from Valencia and the permanent capture of Hwang Hee-chan, the west Midlands side remain on the hunt for an out-and-out striker to add to Lage’s squad.

The Wanderers scored just 38 goals in the Premier League last season, with club top scorer Raul Jimenez netting on a meagre six occasions in all competitions.

With the Mexico international only just recovering from a new injury, the season-long loan of Fabio Silva to Anderlecht has left the Molineux outfit light in the number nine department.

The Latest

Going into the break 0-0 at half-time, Wolves had dominated Tottenham with 12 shots compared to the Lilywhites’ one. However, only two of the Wanderers’ attempts were on target.

Signing the visitors’ praises for their first-half efforts, Oatley shared her verdict on Lage’s striker situation.

Taking to Twitter, the BBC commentator claimed:

“That first half performance by Wolves was basically an advert to any striker thinking of joining them next week. Excellent play all over the pitch except the minor detail – deadly finish. They’re one striker away from being an excellent side.”

The Verdict

With transfer deadline day rapidly approaching, Wolves will need to act fast if they are to bring in an additional forward to the Molineux this summer.

Even with star striker Jimenez in the side, Lage’s men finished last season with the fourth-worst goal-scoring record in the entire division.
