Wolves: Raul Jimenez injury concern emerges

Wolves: Raul Jimenez injury concern emerges -Wolves News

Wolves striker Raul Jimenez’s injury problems appear to be ongoing, with another worrying report emerging from Mexico during the international break.

The Lowdown: Jimenez’s injury woes

The Old Gold have made an iffy start to the Premier League season, sitting 17th in the table and with Bruno Lage finding himself under increasing pressure.

Jimenez’s fitness woes certainly haven’t helped the situation, with the 31-year-old – who has been hailed as ‘special’ by Nuno Espirito Santo in the past – limited to just two starts in the league because of an injury setback.

The striker is hoping to feature at the World Cup later this year but reports from international duty over the past week suggest that his involvement in Qatar could come under threat.

The Latest: Concerning injury update emerges

According to Medio Tiempo [via Sport Witness], Jimenez ‘even walks with difficulty’ at the moment, preventing him from training properly.

A source close to Mexico national team coach Gerardo Martinez has said that the issue is “complicated, very complicated”, and the striker may not be deemed fit for the World Cup ‘until the last moment’.

The Verdict: Coming to the end?

This is a hugely worrying update for Wolves and Jimenez, with the quotes hinting that the 31-year-old certainly won’t be back in Premier League action for a little while yet.

It could even suggest that the Mexican might be coming towards the end of not only his time at Molineux but also potentially his playing career as a whole, given the severity of the problem.

The head injury that he suffered in November 2020 understandably means that he hasn’t been the same player since, while other fitness setbacks have also hampered him, with his goal output for Wolves diminishing over the past couple of years.

The hope is that the Mexico is back fit soon for the Old Gold and that he heads to the World Cup, but in the long-term, it could be worth considering cashing in on him at the end of the season ahead of his contract expiring in 2024.
