VfB Stuttgart left-back Borna Sosa has hinted at wanting a move to Wolves this summer, in order to team up with Sasa Kalajdzic once again.
The Lowdown: Cruel luck for Kalajdzic
Kalajdzic made the big-money move from Stuttgart to Wanderers during last summer’s transfer window, with big things expected of the striker.
Unfortunately, the 25-year-old managed just one appearance in the Premier League and 46 minutes of action before suffering a devastating cruciate ligament injury.
He hasn’t played since and it is possible that he won’t return until next season.
The Latest: Sosa hints at Wolves
Speaking to Bild [via Sport Witness], Sosa admitted he likes the idea of a reunion with Kalajdzic and he ‘dreams’ of the English top flight, thus hinting that a move to Wolves would appeal:
“Like many players, I dream of playing in the Premier League one day. It’s the strongest league in the world. There are not only the big six top clubs, but the other teams are also strong. And if I could play with Sasa in a team there, then all the better.
“Every player sets goals in his career and I want to play for a team that is represented in Europe. But the move to Leverkusen didn’t work out and that’s the end of the matter.
“I feel very comfortable at VfB, I’ve been here for almost five years now. I want to help achieve our goals. The fact that I stayed in Stuttgart is not a problem for me.”
The Verdict: Could be good signing
While Sosa doesn’t officially namecheck Wolves, if he genuinely wants to work with Kalajdzic again and in England, he could be a strong summer signing by Julen Lopetegui.
The 13-time capped Croatia international started five times for his country at the 2022 World Cup and was once hailed for his ‘enormous potential’ by coach Pellegrino Matarazzo.
Sosa’s quality from left-back and left wing-back have seen him register six assists in the Bundesliga this season and he could provide the ammunition for Kalajdzic upon his return.
The likes of Hugo Bueno and Rayan Ait-Nouri would provide competition for the Croatian if he came in but he is someone with undoubted quality at a high level.
