Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Ruben Neves has ‘practically closed’ a deal to join Barcelona, according to journalist Veronica Brunati.

The Lowdown: Uncertain future

The Premier League captain is currently away on World Cup duty with Portugal, but that hasn’t stopped any speculation surrounding his future at Molineux with less than two years remaining on his contract.

Despite the 25-year-old being heavily linked with a move to La Liga, Camp Nou’s president Joan Laporta recently admitted that he won’t be making any new signings in January due to FFP, though next summer was not ruled out.

The Latest: Brunati’s shock exit claim

Taking to Twitter, Brunati claimed that Barcelona have agreed a deal to sign Neves, though in which window he will leave yet remains to be seen. She wrote:

“From a very good Portuguese source: #FCBarcelona has practically closed Ruben Neves and #Cristiano Ronaldo could enter the negotiation.

“He has also received interest from #PSG, Chelsea and Newcastle.”

The Verdict: Don’t let him leave

Julen Lopetegui will already have seen how important Neves is to Wolves, and even the thought of losing his presence in the team is a massive blow.

The Midlands maestro has clocked up 40 goal contributions during his time in the top flight, and his versatility to operate at centre-back if needs be alongside his natural position is an added bonus (Transfermarkt).

Should the Spanish giants come calling, Wanderers could find it difficult to convince Neves to stay given it’s nearer to his homeland, but it’s essential they do all they can to try and keep hold of him.
