Wolverhampton Wanderers journalist Steve Madeley has dropped an update on the proposed redevelopment of Molineux Stadium.
The Lowdown: Fosun’s Molineux vision
Back in 2019, owners Fosun mapped out a plan and unveiled their vision of what the huge project would entail, including the revamp of the Steve Bull and Billy Wright stands, though the only thing that’s changed in the last three seasons is the introduction of rail seating on the South Bank.
In an interview last year, chairman Jeff Shi admitted that the ground makeover had been put on hold to invest the funds into the Premier League playing squad.
The Latest: Madeley’s stadium update
Asked if there were any updates on the Molineux redevelopment during a Q&A for The Athletic, Madeley revealed that many aspects are currently being talked about, but it still doesn’t remain a priority at this moment in time.
“There are still plans being discussed to revamp the Steve Bull Stand, removing the central hospitality boxes, altering the profile of the seats to increase capacity and bring the front row closer to the pitch, and improving the concourses and access points, but as Russell Jones, the general manager of marketing and commercial growth, said in the summer’s Ask Wolves video, it would be an expensive project and is not a priority.”

The Verdict: Increased capacity welcomed
Whenever the Molineux project does begin getting worked on, this will only be a positive step for the future of the club and will allow more supporters to get inside the ground and cheer on their team.
Thousands of Wolves fans have to be put on the ticket waiting list every week, though it’s believed that the capacity would be increased to over 50,000 upon completion.

There already tends to be a brilliant atmosphere whenever the Old Gold plays in the Midlands, but this will only get better with more voices in attendance to turn Molineux into a real fortress.
