The Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern are getting very concerned about their side’s upcoming clash with Watford…

The Gunners have a number of major injury concerns in the lead-up to the game, with the notable duo of Laurent Koscielny and Shkodran Mustafi both looking unlikely to feature this weekend against Watford.

Those two absentees are very notable for Arsenal as it gives Arsene Wenger very little choice with regards to his defence. In truth, he’s going to struggle to put out a back-line capable of dealing with Watford’s potent attack.

Fortunately, the Gunners do have some quality players, and whilst they might not be first-choice, they’ll no doubt come in and do a job for Wenger. However, the manager is going to have to think outside of the box somewhat as he looks to perfect his line-up.

Expect some big changes at the back at Vicarage Road.

With that said, is this the defence Wenger may be forced to pick vs Watford amid his injury woes?

RWB – Hector Bellerin

Hector Bellerin, fortunately, has remained injury free lately, and that’s a big boost for Arsenal.

The rampaging defender is a perfect fit for the wing-back role, and if Arsenal can keep hold of him long-term, that’s a massive bonus for the club.

The Spaniard’s form has gotten better in recent weeks, but he’s still not at his best.

CB – Rob Holding

Rob Holding is a great defender, but he has looked shaky on more than one occasion this season.

Wenger may want to keep him on the sidelines intermittently, but he has little choice but to start him against Watford.

That said, if his general form since moving to Arsenal is anything to go by, he’ll put in a characteristically good performance.

CB – Per Mertesacker

Per Mertesacker’s career is winding down, and whilst his game time is reducing, his fine form certainly isn’t.

The German has looked good whenever he has played this year, and to the surprise of everyone in the pub, this formation seems to suit him well.

He’s not agile or quick, but he does bring leadership and stability.

CB – Nacho Monreal

Out of his natural position, Nacho Monreal has played frequently in the heart of the defence lately.

The Spaniard is very consistent, and Wenger won’t be too worried about him.

He is very solid defensively, and that’s just what Wenger will want.

LWB – Sead Kolasinac

What a start to life in England this man has made.

Kolasinac continues to improve week after week, and he’s looking like one of the signings of the summer.

Perfectly built for the Premier League, he’s going to be a fantastic option – and the left-hand side will be very comfortable for the Gunners.
