Since Sheikh Mansour has taken over at Manchester City he has spent millions on players to bring success back to the blue side of Manchester.
Some have worked out some have failed but the ones that haven’t worked out have not detterred the club’s owner from spending big.
Two Premier League titles have arrived at the Etihad since Mansour arrived at the club and with another new manager set to take the reigns of the club from the summer more money is bound to be invested in the playing side of the club.
But here in The Transfer Tavern our landlord has gone through all the players that have arrived at the club since 2008, and he has managed to come up with eleven of the worst signings made during Sheikh Mansour’s reign at the club.

Stuart Taylor
The former Arsenal youngster arrived at the Etihad from Aston Villa following the expiry of his contract at Villa Park during the summer of 2009.
Taylor never featured for City in the Premier League during his three years with the club making just a couple of appearances overall in both the FA Cup and League Cup.
Since leaving City he has spent time at both Reading and Leeds United respectively.
Wayne Bridge
Manchester City paid Chelsea £12 million to secure the services of left back Bridge during the summer of 2009.
He would spend the next four seasons at the Etihad Stadium but never really shone during his time with the club.
Bridge would find his place under threat when City signed Aleksander Kolarov and Gael Clichy the following summer and found himself the third choice left back for the club.
He left City in the summer of 2013 making just 43 league appearances for the club.
Tal Ben-Haim
Centre back Ben-Haim arrived at the Etihad as then manager Mark Hughes’ second signing for the club.
He cost the club £5 million and declared that he was going to give his all for City.
He would make just 9 league appearances for City after failing to establish himself at the club, and found himself leaving the following summer when he signed a four year deal to join Portsmouth.
Stefan Savic
The big Montenegro centre back arrived at Manchester City during the summer of 2011.
He joined the club from Partizan for a fee of £6 million but would make just 12 league appearances for the side.
He showed glimpses of potential during his time at the club but these were overshadowed by many misplaced passes, dodgy clearances and big game mistakes.
Jerome Boateng
The German defender arrived at the club from Hamburg for a fee of £10.4 million and much was expected from the defender.
But Boateng failed to settle into life in England and after suffering a freak injury with a drinks trolly whilst on international duty with Germany which resulted in injured tendons in his knee it’s fair to say City’s fans never got to see the best of Boateng.
He left the club after one season to return to Hermany with Bayern Munich after making just 16 appearances in the league for City.
Scott Sinclair
Talented winger Sinclair was one of the Premier League’s brightest youngsters when he joined Manchester City from Swansea in 2012 for a fee of £8 million.
Spending the next three years with City would prove too much for the talented Sinclair who failed to replicate any of the ability that he had shown during his time with Swansea.
He left the Etihad for Aston Villa in January 2015 after making just 13 league appearances for Manchester City during his time with the club.
Owen Hargreaves
Owen Hargreaves was tipped to become one of England’s greatest midfielders of all time but injuries put paid to that.
Hargreaves joined City from Manchester United during the summer of 2011 on a free transfer.
His time at Old Trafford was interrupted by injury, but upon signing for City it was revealed that the players was in great shape both mentally and physically.
But the move would not work out for Hargreaves who was released by City the following summer after making just one league appearance for the club.
Jack Rodwell
Another youngster who failed to fulfil great potential after signing terms at the Etihad Stadium.
Rodwell arrived from Everton for £15 million in the summer of 2012 and failed to adapt to life in Manchester.
He lasted two seasons with City but that would see him make just 16 appearances for the club before he was moved on to Sunderland.
Javi Garcia
Garcia arrived at the Etihad Stadium for a fee of £15.8 million from Benfica.
Known for his no nonsense style of midfield play great things were expected of him but again he would be one of those players who would not fulfill his potential in England.
He would make just over 50 appearances for City over two seasons before leaving for Zenit St Petersburg in August 2014.
Roque Santa Cruz
Paraguayan international striker Santa Cruz arrived at Manchester City from Blackburn Rovers for a fee of £17.5 million.
Santa Cruz was a prolific during his time at Ewood Park which encouraged City to part with such a huge amount of cash but the striker turned out to be a costly mistake for Mansour.
He left City for Malaga in 2013 after managing three goals in 20 league appearances for the club.
Jo
Brazil’s next big thing arrived at the Etihad Stadium in the summer of 2008 from CSKA Moscoe for a reported £19 million.
The Brazilian failed to show the form that saw him hit 30 goals in 52 appearances for the Russian side.
He would spend just two seasons at City which included loan spells away at Everton and Galatasaray scoring just once in 21 league appearances for the club.
