Tottenham Hotspur fans in the Transfer Tavern are being realistic about the potential return of fan-favourite, Gareth Bale. The Welsh-wizard lit up White Hart Lane in his six years with the Lilywhites before leaving for a then world-record fee to join Los Blancos in Madrid. However, a story in El Confidencial has reported that Bale wants a Premier League return and could return to Spurs in the summer.
Since leaving London for Madrid, Bale has helped his new side to three Champions League titles but has struggled for consistent game time over the last few years as the Welshman has fought to overcome a number of injury problems. Despite the brilliance that the 28-year-old no doubt possesses, the Spurs fans propping our bar up are sceptical over the potential signing with his injuries and a massive wage being the key concerns.
Daniel Levy, Tottenham’s chairman, has a strict wage structure in place with no player earning huge money compared to other top European clubs. This could become a major stumbling block if Spurs are to enter the market for the man they signed from Southampton eleven years ago. With Bale on a reported mega-contract of over £300,000 per week, our resident punters are well aware Bale would have to agree to cut his wages if he is to sign for Pochettino’s men.
With all that in mind, here are the views of the Spurs fans:
