Manchester United have scheduled a medical to sign striker Wout Weghorst on loan until the end of the season, according to The Daily Star.
The Lowdown: Besiktas loan
The Netherlands international is currently on loan with Besiktas from Championship club Burnley. The 30-year-old has impressed in recent months, contributing to 13 goals in 18 appearances for the Turkish outfit.
He also caught the eye at the World Cup with two goals in the quarter-finals against eventual winners Argentina, and it seems as if he is on his way to Old Trafford to bolster Erik ten Hag’s attacking options.
The Latest: Weghorst medical imminent
The Daily Star shared a story on Monday afternoon, claiming that Weghorst will fly into Manchester this week for a medical.
The report adds that the player will force through a dream move, with United set to compensate Besiktas as they had a no-break clause in a loan deal.
The Verdict: Second signing?
It seems as if Weghorst, described as ‘crazy‘ by former Wolfsburg team-mate Admir Mehmedi and hailed by Rio Ferdinand for a ‘sublime‘ moment against United last year while playing for Burnley, will become the club’s second signing this month after Jack Butland.
You’d expect Weghorst to feature more than the English goalkeeper over the coming months, though, with the towering Dutch striker in good form in front of goal.
He’ll give Ten Hag a new much-needed centre-forward option alongside Anthony Martial, and you’d expect that he could make a matchday squad at the earliest possible opportunity, with resources limited in the number nine role.
