Moussa Sissoko’s Deadline-beating move from Newcastle to Spurs last summer was one of the biggest and most divisive stories of the entire transfer window.
With the Magpies relegated and the Frenchman having had a good EURO 2016, the midfielder’s exit was on the cards for some time, but it took right up until the final seconds were being counted down for him to get his move, with the Lilywhites taking a punt on him, leaving the Toffees bitterly disappointed as they were sure they’d pulled off a deal.
And after all of that risk, Sissoko has been a letdown at White Hart Lane, notching up just 1,029 minutes of disappointing action, which has prompted L’Equipe to claim that he is likely to move on this summer.
The French outlet report that unless Mauricio Pochettino leaves (which seems unlikely), the 27-year-old wants out, while alleging that his value has dropped from the €35m (£30.2m) paid for him last year to around €20m (£17.3m) – a huge decline.
And while Spurs fans are, quite rightly, pretty annoyed with the whole saga, Newcastle supporters are having a field day both here in the Transfer Tavern and on Twitter…
