The Athletic’s Jordan Campbell has revealed that Glasgow Rangers’ new signing Bongani Zungu’s quarantine is over and he can now train with his new teammates.

Zungu available

The South Africa international was signed on transfer deadline day, with the Ibrox outfit finally securing him on loan after being linked with him for most of the summer.

However, he is yet to play for his new club, having been forced to spend two weeks in quarantine after arriving in Scotland towards the end of the international break. Now, he is finally free and can train with his new teammates as soon as possible.

Boost for Gerrard

Gerrard was looking for another midfielder for much of the recently-closed transfer window, and he finally got his man in the last few hours. £1.44m-valued Zungu (Transfermarkt) arrived on loan from Amiens after making 52 appearances in Ligue 1, whilst he also has 26 caps for his country. Hailed as “dominant” by his new manager, he gives the 54-time Scottish champions another option in the middle of the park alongside the likes of Glen Kamara and Ryan Jack.

Will Zungu be a success at Ibrox?

Of course, it is still unlikely that he will feature any time soon. He has not trained with a team at least since transfer deadline day, and he made just one start out of a possible six for his former club at the start of this campaign. He is certainly lacking match fitness and he may need a while to get up to speed. When he does, though, Gerrard will be hoping he can hit the ground running.
