2 players that Man City should target if they need to replace Mendy in January

The Man City fans in the Transfer Tavern are concerned about recent reports surrounding Benjamin Mendy…

The defender looks set to miss out on a huge chunk of action after suffering a potentially major injury, which is a massive blow for all parties involved.

For Mendy, he was just picking up the pace and reaching his peak following his move over the summer, whilst Pep Guardiola will be frustrated that one of his biggest signings of the summer is now set to be unavailable.

However, there is no time for the club to revel in their disappointment. Rather, they need to move quickly and ensure that his injury does not affect them all too much. In the short-term, a replacement within the squad will need to be called upon, but depending on the severity of the blow, the club may even need to sign a replacement in January.

They can’t afford to enter the knockout stages of Europe without a top left-back, and so just in the event of that disappointing scenario, perhaps Guardiola should be considering a few signings.

With that said, here are 2 players that Man City should sign if they need to replace Mendy in January…

 Ryan Bertrand

If City want a solid option, they should look no further than Ryan Bertrand

The Englishman has been one of the Premier League’s most consistent defenders since moving to Southampton, and that could be just what the Citizens need.

He would also offer something different to Mendy even when he returns. A safer, more defensive option that could be utilised against some of Europe’s more threatening teams.

The promise of first-team football may be enough to tempt him, though he would likely be concerned at the prospect of a Mendy return.

 Jonas Hector

Jonas Hector is a regular German international, and one of the finest players in the Bundesliga.

Currently playing for FC Köln, the defender is fantastic going forward whilst also maintaining defensive solidity – much in the same vein as Mendy.

He’s older than the Frenchman, but he is equally enjoying some of the best football of his career, and so Pep Guardiola would be wise to consider him as an option.
