Despite a poor showing on the opening day against Burnley, Chelsea have rebounded well – picking up a stellar six points from games against Tottenham and Everton.
Particularly against Tottenham, the vigour and commitment shown by the Chelsea players was very impressive, and if they continue like that, there is no doubting that a title challenge will come this season.
One player that has looked particularly good this year is Cesar Azpilicueta. He has led the side in the absence of Gary Cahill, and his form has been impressive – as it always is.
He’s a popular player amongst fans, and if Eden Hazard is anyone to go by, he is a popular figure in the dressing room too. Hazard, in an interview with Marca, has opened up on the Spaniard – revealing all on what he thinks of him.
Hazard said: “Yes, he is one of my best friends. Now he’s the new captain next to Gary Cahill, and he has a lot of experience”.
He added: “Azpilicueta always gives everything on the pitch, both in games and in training. He’s a pleasure to play with and to also be his friend”.
Azpilicueta is a player that has endeared himself to supporters, and it’s easy to see why Hazard is such a fan. He really wears his heart on his sleeve, and that’s a sure fire way to become a popular figure.
If he continues his form as the season goes on, his popularity is only going to increase.
Landlord’s Verdict
Eden Hazard is always touted as the most important Chelsea player, and whilst that is probably the case, Cesar Azpilicueta isn’t far behind him.
The Spaniard has turned into one of Europe’s best defenders, and his consistency despite changing positions on a yearly basis has been simply remarkable.
