The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern are desperate for a few deals to be completed over the coming days…
The Blues are going well in the Premier League, and whilst a minor blip against Burnley did cause a lot of alarm amongst fans, it appears as though everything is back to normal now.
Indeed, Chelsea’s last two games – against Tottenham and Everton respectively – have been absolutely fantastic, and anybody that ruled out Chelsea for the title beforehand is surely regretting that now.
Take nothing away from the Blues’ management team, they’ve achieved wonders with a very limited squad, but that can’t be expected to continue all season long. They need depth, and they need it quickly.
Fortunately, then, another player could be coming in – with the Express reporting that Chelsea are ‘moving closer’ to a deal for Danny Drinkwater, with the Blues clearly keen to get a deal over the line.
Drinkwater would offer Chelsea a fantastic, experienced option in the heart of the midfield, and alongside the likes of Tiemoue Bakayoko, N’Golo Kante and Cesc Fabregas he would be a fantastic option.
Chelsea need some players in a number of positions, but their problems in the midfield against Tottenham – with Bakayoko having to play despite a relative lack of fitness – proved their needs in that position.
Landlord’s Verdict
This prospective deal has been rumbling on for a while, so it’s difficult to dispute Chelsea’s interest. Leicester clearly want to hang on to the midfielder, but the Blues will likely push harder as the window edges closer.
He’d be a real asset for Chelsea in the middle of the park, and whilst Leicester will miss him, it will undoubtedly be a huge step up for the Englishman.
Will it happen? It’s hard to say, but Chelsea are likely to spend before the summer is over, and he is definitely on their wish list.
