Liverpool are flying high in the Premier League and their fans here in the Transfer Tavern are absolutely loving life under Jurgen Klopp right now!
The Reds are the closest thing, along with Spurs, that title rivals Chelsea have right now and if they are to keep pace at the top of the Premier League table, keeping the good form coming in the next few weeks is absolutely vital.
Jurgen Klopp has built the squad he feels can win his side the Premier League title and with some of their rivals struggling in the league, this could be their best chance to win the division in years.
And with things going seemingly well at Anfield right now, it’s important that the train of momentum continues out of the New Year and throughout the January transfer window too.
Jurgen Klopp has done a superb job at the summit during his time so far but we think there are a couple of things he needs to bare in mind during the winter transfer period.
So with that in mind, here’s three mistakes Liverpool simply must avoid in the January transfer market according to our landlord…
Wasting money on big names

There is a lot less doubt in this Liverpool side with Jurgen Klopp now at the Anfield helm but what the Reds mustn’t do this January is panic buy like they have done in seasons past.
Mario Balotelli is the signing that probably stands out amongst the worst in Liverpool’s modern-day history and now he’s doing well over in France, it’s probably a little difficult for Reds fans to watch.
But it seems that Jurgen Klopp, if he chooses to spend, will do so a little more wisely than some of his predecessors at Anfield.
Signing players Klopp doesn’t truly believe in

With Liverpool going so well in the league, it’s now very important that Jurgen Klopp, if he chooses to bring players to the club, does so with the whole of the team in mind.
The Reds have a very real chance to challenge for the Premier League title come the end of the campaign and he’ll need players with character, heart and spirit, as well as the quality to help the team push forward.
Getting the balance of all those will be just as important as bringing through a man who has the quality needed on the pitch. Klopp has to believe the player has what it takes to help the team, not themselves and that is really important.
Having a gamble

In recent years, we’ve seen some pretty big Liverpool gambles not come off in the slightest and it’s probably best that for everyone’s sake, Klopp keeps things sensible in January.
Iago Aspas, Jermaine Pennant, Alberto Moreno, Mario Balotelli, Paul Konchesky – these are all gambles that have been made by the Reds in recent years and they’re players that haven’t cut the mustard in the slightest.
This isn’t a season where Klopp has to stick or twist. He needs to sustain and throwing about millions on unproven players isn’t the way Liverpool will secure the title this time around.
