It’s been yet another season of disappointment for the fans at Old Trafford this season, especially considering the money that has been spent by manager Louis van Gaal.
The club have underperformed in the league, got knocked out in the group stages of the Champions League, and following that lost to rivals Liverpool in the Europa League.
With pressure heaping on manager Van Gaal the club’s only chance of success this season will come in the form of the FA Cup, but first they have a tricky replay against West Ham United at Upton Park next month.
So after what has been a disappointing time for the fans of the red side of Manchester they now come to the time of the season when they think about voting for the club’s player of the year, a tough decision to make after what has been a poor campaign.
So our landlord here in The Transfer Tavern has come up with THREE possibilities who could be in line to be picked as the club’s player of the year……

David De Gea
The Spanish goalkeeper has been in superb form at Old Trafford this season despite the club’s struggles at home and abroad.
A string of superb performances, coupled with some fine saves have seen him once again prove why he is one of the best goalkeepers in the world.
No doubt the Spaniard will be earning rave reviews from the fans for his form again this season, and he will no doubt be featuring high in the list when the votes are counted before the player of the year awards are handed out.
Chris Smalling
It has been an excellent season domestically for the England centre back who seems to be showing the promise that encouraged Manchester United to sign him from Fulham.
He has led the backbone of the team together well despite numerous injury problems in the back line and not knowing who he is going to be lining up with in defence.
If Smalling carries on the way he is there is no doubt he could become and England regular and possibly a future Manchester United captain in the making.
Ander Herrera
The Spaniard has gone about his job quietly this season but has not failed to impress many pundits in the game.
In his second season at United since arriving from Athletic Bilbao he has made some rampaging runs through the midfield and scored the odd spectacular goal.
Another who has given his all for the cause this season, and if you had 11 players like him in your starting lineup you would no doubt be challenging for major honours.
