3 players who could follow Florian Lejeune into Newcastle United this summer

Newcastle United supporters in the Transfer Tavern are expecting to welcome more arrivals to St James’ Park following the arrival of Florian Lejeune.

Having already completed the permanent transfer of Christian Atsu from Chelsea, Frenchman Florian Lejeune becomes the Magpies’ second summer arrival.

The former Manchester City defender joins Newcastle for a rumoured fee of £8.7 million.

Lejeune’s strongest position is at centre-back where he could forge a prosperous relationship with club captain Jamaal Lascelles.

Rafa Benitez’s team have been linked with a whole host of players this transfer window, but have yet to seal many deals.

Sufficient depth and a starting eleven endowed with talent is the perfect recipe for survival, to accomplish this, Newcastle must exercise their financial resources in the transfer market.

Our landlord has opted to look at three players who could follow Lejeune to Newcastle this summer….

Javier Hernandez

Newcastle United have been linked with a striker throughout the window so far, and despite the fact that Javier Hernandez has not appeared on their list of rumoured targets, our landlord believes that the Mexican would be the perfect addition for Rafa Benitez this summer.

The 29-year-old has displayed his ability to perform excellently in the Premier League with his time at Manchester United, and he has maintained his fine goal scoring antics with Bayern Leverkusen.

Despite approaching the age of 30, Chicharito has scored 39 goals in 76 appearances for the German club – a ratio of more than a goal every two games.

For a squad devoid of considerable Premier League experience Hernandez would be the consummate coup for Benitez and Newcastle.

Moreover, he’s an experienced international having scored 48 goals in 94 caps for Mexico.

Kieran Gibbs

Another player Benitez should be pursuing this summer is an out-of-favour full-back, Kieran Gibbs.

The left-back was used sparingly by Arsene Wenger last season, having only featured in the league in 11 games.

While the possibility of Gibbs leaving Arsenal may be hard to fathom, the Englishman could be on the move this window.

As previously mentioned, Rafa Benitez’s squad lacks substantial experience, and know-how in England’s top flight and the acquisition of Gibbs could provide invaluable experience to the Toon ranks.

He is arguably far superior to current left-back Paul Dummett, and has amassed 230 appearances for such a prestigious club like Arsenal; his ability is there for all to admire.

Andreas Samaris

Samaris is a reported target for Rafa Benitez, and his arrival would notably enhance the quality of the Spaniard’s midfield.

Renowned for his passing and tackling ability, Andreas Samaris lost a starting position with Benfica last season, making only 19 league appearances – 9 of which were as a substitute.

The Greek international would provide steel and stability to the Magpies’ midfield – required traits to combat the physical nature of the Premier League.

The 28-year-old is an experienced Greek international and his time with Benfica has testified his ability to play at the highest level.

His signing would significantly improve Newcastle’s squad.
