Our Liverpool fans here in the Transfer Tavern are keen to see the Reds finish strongly this season after a terrible start to 2017.
Coming into this calendar year the Reds were well in contention for a Premier League title as well as both the EFL Cup and FA Cup respectively but things have gone south rapidly since.
Now all they can hope for is a top four finish and our landlord, like many, thinks this summer the club really need to spend some money in order to avoid a repeat capitulation.
Indeed, plenty of players are getting linked with the Reds at the moment and one of the latest stars to be named is Gaston Ramirez.
Tuttomercatoweb of Italy can be credited with this claim and despite some baffled looks on many of our punters over this deal, our landlord can see it potentially working.
With that in mind, then, here are three reasons why that could be the case…
An extra attacker
First things first the Reds squad is ridiculously thin and easily the weakest of the top six sides.
We’ve seen that get exposed badly over the past few weeks to leave their ambitions in tatters and so bringing in Ramirez would help solve that. He’d likely not cost a bomb whilst he’d give the Reds an added experienced option to use when inevitable injuries do occur.
Untapped potential
You do get the feeling with Ramirez that he could be so much more as a footballer.
In his time with both Middlesbrough and Southampton we’ve only seen flashes of what he can do and when he is on it he can be very impressive. If Jurgen Klopp can find a remedy for that inconsistency the Reds might be able to unearth a gem of a player just as he enters his prime.
He’s versatile
If you’re going to play in a Jurgen Klopp team you need to be versatile.
We’ve certainly seen that this season with James Milner playing at left back and his front-three of Sadio Mane, Philippe Coutinho and Roberto Firmino rotating a great deal. Ramirez would fit into that system, too, as he can play down the left, right or in behind a main striker and so this deal might not be as left-field as it perhaps initially appears.
