It’s been a miserable campaign for the Sunderland fans in the Transfer Tavern thus far, who’ve watched their side struggle towards the wrong end of the table under David Moyes.
Despite having experience in staving off relegation, only to pull off a great escape, the weary Wearsiders at the bar are quickly becoming resigned to waving their Premier League status goodbye in May, believing this season could be just a step too far.
The Black Cats are yet to bring anyone in this month and their squad retains the unbalanced looked that has plagued the halls of the Stadium of Light for the past few campaigns. While new signings are obviously needed to help Moyes in the short-term, there’s little doubt the club need to ship out some of the deadwood they’ve picked up over the past few years amid a few failed transfer strategies.
With that in mind, here are THREE Sunderland players who would surely suit from a loan move away this month.
Jack Rodwell
Despite being a highly-rated talent under Moyes at Everton, the three-cap England international has an awful record at Sunderland. Having not won his first 32 games in red and white, the 25-year-old is stuck in a rut on Wearside and looks a shadow of the sort of player Manchester City bought back in 2012.
Even dropping down into the Championship would be a better move for him right now.
Fabio Borini
Amazingly, Fabio Borini isn’t always a regular under Moyes, even in a Sunderland side as bad as this.
Despite a largely awful few years for the club, the Italian has probably seen his reputation enhanced during their constant relegation scraps. He’s been linked with a move to Serie A, having once enjoyed a decent spell with Roma, the former Liverpool man could probably play in a better team.
Wahbi Khazri
Having helped the Wearsiders stay up last season, the Tunisia international has failed to replicate that sort of form this term and looks a shadow of his former self. Another to be touted for a potential exit in the summer, the 25-year-old would be best served getting out while he can.
