The new Premier League season has kicked off, and with it so do the big games!
The first heavyweight clash of the season starts on Sunday when Liverpool travel to the Emirates to take on Arsenal.
This has caused a lot of speculation and conversation here in the Transfer Tavern between both sets of punters.
Will Sanchez see Arsenal to their first victory? Or will Coutinho carve his way through Arsenal? Either way, it stands to be a strong contest.
With that in mind, here are THREE things to look out for this weekend when the Gunners take on the Reds of Merseyside….
New Signings
Both clubs have made a few new signings over the summer, and the highlights of which to look out for would certainly be Arsenal’s Xhaka and Liverpool’s Mane, both midfielders.
The two players will be keen to make an impact on the game for their respective teams, so it’ll be interesting to see how they do in such a tough opening fixture, particularly Xhaka who is new to Premier League football.
The midfield battle
There will certainly be a battle for control in midfield with players such as Coutinho and Sanchez looking to change the tide of the game in their side’s favour.
As well as this, their defensive midfielders will be put through their paces with strong attacking talent on both sides, so it’ll be interesting to see how the likes of Cazorla and Can deal with this, something which will also certainly determine the outcome of the match.
Strikers
Despite the bags of talent both teams have in midfield, neither team currently has a prolific and fit goal scorer.
With both Sturridge and Giroud unlikely to take part, it’ll be interesting to see who plays up top for both sides.
Danny Ings may step up for Liverpool, a player who’s time on Merseyside has been plagued by injury but his return to fitness will surely only mean good things for Klopp’s Liverpool.
Origi is another option for Klopp, who has shown promise and talent so he’s another strong option.
Meanwhile, the Gunners will more than likely give Walcott a shift up front, with his bags of pace he will surely cause problems, but this doesn’t appear a permanent solution to their problem.
With all of this in mind, the new season’s first big clash is set to be an entertaining contest between two sides looking for at least a top four finish.
The battle begins this weekend.
